Hire The Theatre

In addition to our in-house productions, the Tabard Theatre works closely with other theatre companies who want to present their work to our loyal and diverse audience.

We generally programme long runs of plays and musicals for 3 – 5 weeks but also present one night comedy gigs and shorter runs. The Tabard is also the ideal setting for workshops, rehearsals, presentations, staff training and other functions.

The Tabard Theatre is a 97 seat studio theatre in Zone 2 and close to public transport and a thriving community. We provide a fully managed service with telephone and online booking and box office staff. We have excellent back-stage facilities, an available stock of lighting equipment and can offer support with technical and marketing issues.

If you are interested in bringing a production to the Tabard Theatre or would like to hire the theatre for a bespoke event, then please contact us on info@tabardtheatre.co.uk

The Tabard Theatre is a 97 seat studio theatre sited above the Tabard Pub in Turnham Green, Chiswick.

Opened in 1985, it quickly built a strong reputation for new writing. However, the theatre now hosts all kinds of live entertainment from classical adaptations to new musical works and contemporary revivals. It enjoys the support of a loyal local audience and, thanks to its location, visitors from all over London.

Over the years the Tabard Theatre has played a key role in the development of London Theatre, highly acclaimed for its professional work and extremely popular within the community of West London.

In recent years the theatre has been extensively refurbished, technically upgraded and the seating replaced, making it one of the most welcoming and well-equipped studio theatres in the capital.

We have developed strong relationships with comedy agents and are regularly used as a venue for comedians such as Al Murray, Russell Howard, Chris Addison, Mark Thomas and Harry Hill. During the day, we are used for photo/film shoots, rehearsals and training.

The Tabard Theatre… it’s where I go to get back my comedy mojo”
Al Murray

It’s been practically my second home this week”
Chris Addison

Our policy is to both produce and programme a wide and diverse range of shows that will appeal to an extensive audience base, attracting both local and London wide audiences.

“I paid my first-ever visit to the long-established Tabard Theatre on Turnham Green. I found a rare thing here: a theatre that is not only comfortably equipped with real theatre seating, but also a fully raked auditorium that puts many West End sightlines to shame” Mark Shenton

The theatre is available for hire throughout the year for runs of plays, musicals, comedy gigs and music recitals.

We generally programme four-week runs but can accommodate shorter runs and one-nighters dependent on calendar availability. The Tabard Theatre is also the ideal setting for workshops, rehearsals, presentations, staff training and other functions.

We provide a fully managed Box Office service with online booking, telephone and box office staff. We have excellent back-stage facilities, an available stock of lighting and sound equipment and can offer support with technical and marketing issues.

We aim to provide the easiest and most cost-effective way for talented individuals and companies to present their work to a loyal and diverse audience.

Local Area

The Tabard Theatre is the only professional producing theatre in Chiswick. The theatre is located just around the corner, as you exit Turnham Green tube station.

We are conveniently located above the Tabard Pub, which is open from noon and serves food until 9pm. The pub offers a wide variety of drinks (including a selection of real ale) and is a friendly and welcoming local landmark. The Pub and theatre are part of an area of Chiswick called Bedford Park, a 19th century suburban development, described as the worlds first garden suburb. It is a conservation area and many of the houses including the Pub and Theatre are Grade 2 Listed buildings. The Pub and the Theatre are also listed as Assets of Community Value.

We are proud supporters of the Bedford Park Festival. Run by St Michael and All Angels Church, the Festival is Chiswick’s biggest community event, attracting thousands of people from the local area and further afield, and raising money for charities and projects at St Michael’s.

The Chiswick High street is just a five-minute walk from the theatre and offers a number of places to eat and shop. Chiswick House is a short bus journey away and is a glorious example of 18th-century British architecture.
