Exit the King

18 - 21 July 2007

by Eugene Ionescu

“Why was I born if it wasn’t forever?”

After a ludicrous reign spanning two hundred and seventy-three years and three months, King Berenger is suddenly now left with one hour and seven minutes to live. Surrounded by his dearest friends and closest enemies, the King must quench his regal pomposity and face up to his own mortality.

Played to a landscape of an excitable and childish playground, this production grabs this Ionesco classic by the pig-tails and puts the ‘abs’ in absurd.
